John Valk 1998 Pontiac Formula
400 Horsepower to the rear wheels with a 4L60E automatic transmission, how can that be done? With a complete top end rebuild and some tuning on an LS1 1998 Pontiac Formula is how Precision Autosports makes 400 RWHP with a 4L60E. As 2006 was coming to a close John was stocking up on parts for the New Year, a brand new Nick Williams 90mm throttle body and ported FAST intake manifold, this was just the beginning. A set of Texas Speed stage 2.5 cylinder heads, to compliment his already installed 224/224, 563/563 camshaft. The last installment on the stock pile of parts would be the Racetronics high flow fuel pump. Like any LS based engine John had done the first set of modifications, Hedman full length headers and Y-pipe, TCI 3500 stall converter and RPM stage 4 4L60E automatic transmission. Once the parts had been collected, it was time to schedule the work. John brought us the car, with the parts in the trunk and the build had begun.
Now that the work was complete, it was time to head to the Dyno for some tuning. Though hard to believe with a high stall automatic car on a Dynojet, Johns Formula put down a very impressive 400 RWHP pull. After several runs on the Dyno and some fine tuning, 424 RWHP naturally aspirated, we knew John would be happy with the results. When John picked up the car, he was very satisfied, but did inform us that the car would only be naturally aspirated for the remainder of this year. Beware of this car on the street, though stock looking, it has no where near stock power.
